First Day of School

School is back in! It snuck up on us so quickly. We got back from our trip with only one week to complete all the school supply and clothing shopping.

Danielle was so excited. Not sure why. Danielle likes anything, and also nothing. Her lackadaisical attitude is so funny to me. She was happy to get dressed up and do something different. She rarely complains about a new adventure, just kind of goes along for the ride. She is a smart girl so this year should be a great year for her. She got the teacher she had been saying all summer long that she wanted.

Spencer started kindergarten. He was so ready to go. Last year he rode to and from school with the girls, just never went in. He was very ready to go in. Of course, I think he missed me because when I met him at the bike racks after school, he ran up to me and gave my the longest hug ever. I didn't think he was ever going to let go. I loved that he missed me because I sure missed him. It was so quiet at home without Spencer. Spencer isn't loud himself, but he creates the noise in others. Nathan was lost without his brother.

Spencer got the teacher that I wanted. He has the same teacher that Camie had in kindergarten. And she is amazing and perfect for Spencer. She is kind, loving, and patient. Spencer won't give her any problems, but he tends to get his feelings hurt and then all ability of communication completely shuts down. She'll be so good with him. A teacher that yells absolutely would not work.

Spencer told me after that super long hug that school is so much more fun than home. Hmmm. Is that good or bad?

Nathan insisted I get his first day of back to school picture.

Camie got great teachers too. She was excited to get back into a routine that allowed her to read. Read a lot. That girl loves to read. She also enjoyed percussion last year and is excited to try out for that again this year. She also thrives off structure and having plenty to do during the day. With the exception of PE. She doesn't like PE. But art and music and math and reading are her favorites. She also got one of her best friends in her class so she was super excited about that.

Can you believe this is my little girl? She is so grown up! Amazing how that change happens so quickly. She did wear shoes to school, just her school starts 45 minutes after the elementary, so she wasn't quite ready and had to hurry and step out the door for pictures. She is now in the 7th grade. Very excited about her art class that she gets to take this year. She is also in orchestra playing the viola (which she is very good at). She is in athletics and so that will change up the whole PE scene, hopefully for the better. She was excited to start the first day of school, but the first day only. She said she just wanted to see what it was like and then take another month or two off. Too bad it doesn't work that way.

Here is the group of them that started school. Seriously, my house was so quiet that day. I really missed them. It is so easy to take two kids to the store vs. six. And a McDonalds stop isn't nearly as expensive, meaning I can actually stop and get something if I wanted. But I also have 4 lunches to pack, plus Evan. It takes almost a half hour each night to get together their lunches. And the getting up at 6am. That is so brutal. I am just not a morning person. I wish I was. I should be after all these years of having children. But I still am not.

This is the elementary crew. Nathan and Gavin in the stroller to take the kiddos to and from school.

Spencer in line at school on the first day. I love how we can escort them to their class on the first day. Nathan had a great time helping SPencer to his class. Danielle and Camie just took off, too excited to see all their friends and wait for me.
