Scripture Worms

I am part of the most amazing ward (a small congregation at church). And I am even luckier to be able to work with the children in my ward. These children aren't just any children. They are some of the greatest, strongest, most awesome children I have ever met. You should have heard testimony meeting yesterday. Those children really are amazing!

To explain yesterday, I need to give a little background. December 31 we had a "meet the teacher" breakfast. We kicked off the new year's theme, "I know the scriptures are true" with a "scripture worm" (click on the link to see what they looked like) that was filled with gumballs. The children could eat a gumball as long as they were reading their scriptures. We also handed out scripture logs so the children could mark off each day they read and then at the end of the month turn in their logs for a reward. The goal is consistency. We want to establish daily scripture reading.

Last month a little less than half the Primary turned in their scripture logs. Some were lost, many of the children just forgot to bring them. They had to have a log to get a prize. We handed out paper apples with a bag of gummy worms in them to go along with the bookworm theme.

This month I made sugar cookies decorated to match the scripture worms from the new years meet-the-teacher breakfast. I made enough for all the children but figured I would have plenty left over. I hoped all the children turned in their logs, but let's be realistic. Children forget. Children loose things. And children really don't read their scriptures consistently. Right?

WRONG! I had EVERY CHILD IN MY PRIMARY but two families bring their scripture logs filled out and completed. And the two families that did not bring their scripture logs back had just forgotten them at home. THEY ALL READ. The whole entire Primary read their scriptures for the month of February.

Did I mention that I have an awesome Primary? We have two Sunbeam classes. Sunbeams don't read. That means parents are having to help them. That means the children are having to remind the parents to read.

It is working! My Primary is holding to that rod of iron as spoken of by Nephi. They are inviting the spirit into their homes. They are allowing the blessings of the spirit to be poured upon them because they are reading the scriptures daily. And I am so thankful that I am able to be an instrument in the Lord's hands to help in this work.

I really am part of a wonderful ward. And in this great ward is an amazing Primary.

Can't wait to collect those scripture logs for March.

And a BIG thank-you to Tisha. She came over and helped me for hours in decorating those cookies. I also had help from my girls and of course my niece, Audrey.

Now if you are part of my Primary and have misplaced a scripture log, here is the link to print off another one. Or if you want to join in on the fun, this link will work for you, too. I didn't design them but am so thankful to the person that did.

Thank you for being such an awesome instrument in making this all happen! If you weren't so open and willing to recieve and follow inspiration, this wouldn't have been such a great success.

I was waking up from a nap but I knew what Brayden was excited about when he came home from church on sunday. Matt was excited that teachers are included too. :)

What a fun theme this year and a great way to reinforce it! We're definitely reading and Brayden doesn't want to miss a night.
