First Day of After School Cookies

Last year I made cookies for my kids on the first day of school. So I'd be a good mom and my kids would have something to come home to and be excited. All happiness with mouths full of yumminess.

They really liked it and it made me feel like I was doing at least something good in the world. With Just having Gavin home, I should have lots of free time, right? Not working out like I thought.

But I still made the cookies that spelled their name. And Gavin loves to help, so it was a fun activity to do with him.

Gavin got to be the first to start in on his cookies.

The elementary school kids get home first. So they started in. This year they didn't make comments like "why does Danielle get so many cookies." Or, "it's not fair, my name is the shortest".

They ate their cookies without complaint and were thankful that they had a wonderful mother who would spend her time making something for them. Okay, maybe they weren't that grateful, but at least they didn't complain.

And then the middle schoolers. I thought I was doing Taneal a favor by leaving off the frosting. She hates frosting. Takes it off everything. So, I left her cookies unfrosted and just wrote her name. She was hesitant to say anything, but asked if she could trade her cookies for some frosted ones because this was the one frosting that she absolutely loved.

Maybe one day I'll get it right. Eh, probably not. And that will be okay too.

They had a great first day of school, all happiness to report. Mostly.
