Megan is Gavin's cousin, my neice. She is the daughter of my little brother Michael. They recently moved here so Michael can teach at one of the High Schools here. We are so thrilled to have them here. I think Gavin may be the happiest. He gained a new friend. They play so well together. Its fun to have them together.
I wanted to do some kind of activity with Gavin because I am worried that I just won't do it if there isn't accountability. So, I talked to Megan's mom, Karen, my sister-in-law, and we arranged to do a little preschool. It's just the two of them. I'm excited because I have to plan and prepare. And then, I get a few hours every other week to go and do things all by myself. Last week I had to use that time to go into work (I usually work from home but occasionally have to go in). It was so nice to know that Gavin was in a place he enjoyed doing things other than watching tv. I didn't feel guilty.
Well, the first day of preschool was at my home. Gavin fell asleep about 30 minutes before it started. I couldn't wake that kid up. The new school schedule was wearing him out. After about 30 minutes, Megan and I were able to get him to wake up. And he was so excited to have Megan there.
We learned about the letter "a" and apples. We used their hands and arms and stamped the trunk and branches of an apple tree. I gave them green paint on a paper plate and they got to add the leaves. After that dried, we went back and used fingers to put apples in the tree. They loved the craft and I was happy to be able to do something that I may not have done had I not been committed.
We cut open an apple and looked at the star inside. Then I sliced up that apple and they ate it. The whole thing. Then it was lunch time and neither was hungry.
They drank apple juice boxes.
And here is the final craft: apple trees.
I love this age. So fun to have Megan here and Gavin enjoying it too.
